To make an unhealthy scalp healthy, three things need to happen

1. Any scale on the scalp needs to be removed.
2. The level of micro-organisms on the scalp needs to be controlled.
3. Fast growing, and scale forming, skin cells on the scalp need to be slowed.

The Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo works in the following ways:

1) Removes Scale

To make an unhealthy scalp healthy, any scale on the scalp needs to be removed.

The combination of the special therapeutic oils and gentle but highly effective cleansing agents in this shampoo loosen and clear scale from the scalp allowing it to be washed away, leaving your scalp clean and fresh.

2) Controls Micro Organisms

To make an unhealthy scalp healthy, the level of micro-organisms on the scalp needs to be controlled.

A common cause of an unhealthy scalp is a micro-organism called Malassezia furfur.

This fungus is always present on the scalp but when, for one reason or another, the level of the skin’s natural oil (called sebum) increases and/or there are minor changes to the composition of sebum due to ill health, diet, stress, hormonal changes and other factors, then conditions improve for the proliferation of the Malassezia furfur fungus resulting in scalp itching, flaking, inflammation, spots, dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis and other problems.

The Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo is composed of natural therapeutic oils; Corn Mint, Thyme, Tea Tree and Rosemary Oils all have highly effective antiseptic and anti-microbial properties which eliminate high levels of the micro-organisms, clear scale and stop itching and tenderness.

3) Controls Skin Cell Growth

This is fundamental to the success of a treatment and something other treatments usually fail to address.

One of the most common symptoms of an unhealthy scalp is that the skin cells of the scalp form too quickly.

Normally it takes about 28 days for the cells which have formed at the base of the epidermis (the outer part of the skin) to move through the skin and to reach the surface (this process is called the epidermal turnover).

Once at the surface these skin cells, which are now dead, come away when we wash our hair. But when the scalp is unhealthy the rate at which these cells travel through the skin is greatly increased, so it is common for the cells to reach the surface of the skin in 14 days or less rather than the normal 28, and in some skin disorders it can be much faster than that.
With psoriasis, for example, it can take only 3 days for this to occur.

This increase in dead skin cells results in the formation of scale on the surface of the scalp. When this occurs the level of micro-organisms (which we all have on our skin) increases causing even more scale to form.

The Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo contains Juniper oil which is extracted from Spanish juniper trees and gives the shampoo a slight tar-like smell. This has a soothing and calming effect on the scalp tissues and causes the fast growing skin cells to slow down to a regular rate of growth, allowing the scalp’s metabolism to return to a normal, healthy state so no further scale forms on the scalp.

It depends on what is causing your hair loss in the first place. Some types of hair loss are caused by your scalp being unhealthy. If this is the case improving the health of your scalp with the Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo will reduce any excess hair loss down to a normal level.

Hair loss can also be caused by illness, stress, a poor diet, low iron levels and many other factors. If this is the case just using the Juniper shampoo will not help much as you need to eliminate the cause of the problem. If you think, for example, that you are not getting as much sleep as you feel your body needs you can correct that by getting more sleep. Often something as simple as that can reduce excessive hair loss.

If your hair loss is genetic as with male pattern hair loss (androgenic) then using the Juniper Shampoo can sometimes help.

An unhealthy scalp can be caused by illness, stress, overwork, diet etc (eating too much cheese for example, can trigger dandruff in some people).

Directions for Use: Wet hair thoroughly and apply shampoo. Gently massage into the hair and scalp and leave for a few minutes before rinsing to allow the active ingredients to take effect. If you wash your hair daily one lather is enough.

For healthy scalps:

At the start use the shampoo every day or every other day, then as your scalp improves reduce to twice a week for a few weeks.

Eventually use the Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo once a week to maintain a healthy scalp and hair.

For anti-hair loss:

Washing the hair 2-3 times a week should be taken as an absolute minimum usage level. Subsequent work has shown that washing the hair daily with a 1% piroctone olamine shampoo, an anti-microbial agent, gives the best results. This should be continued for a minimum of 6 months, thereafter, if the hair growth to hair loss ratio has improved, use of the Juniper Therapy Scalp Shampoo can be reduced to 3 times a week, but frequent hair washing is still recommended.

The shampoo is made with six Natural Therapeutic Plant Oils: Juniper Oil, Corn Mint Oil, Thyme Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Rosemary Oil & Eucalyptus Oil. 

 All these oils are natural anti-microbials so control the levels of micro-organisms in the scalp which are often the cause of scalp problems. In addition, the Juniper Oil has anti-mitotic properties so it slows down the rate at which cells grow in the scalp epidermis (the outer layer of the skin). This gentle, soothing action is very important for preventing further scale forming and for reducing scalp tenderness, irritation and inflammation. As your scalp turns from unhealthy to healthy it often follows that the condition and growth of the hair improves.

The Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo can be used in conjunction with other treatments such as Finasteride (Propecia) or Minoxidil (Regaine).

Indeed, clinical use trials have shown that there is frequently a synergistic effect giving improved results. An example of this is with the use of Minoxidil.

The use of Minoxidil alone can have positive effects on hair growth in many people, as can the use of piroctone olamine, an anti-microbial agent, in the Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo.

But one of the drawbacks of Minoxidil, it being a topically applied lotion, is that if there is any build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of the scalp (this may not be visible to the eye) they can act as a sponge which will absorb a high proportion of the Minoxidil lotion, thus preventing it from reaching its ‘target site’, the dermal papilla (the hair root) at the base of the hair follicle.

But when the Juniper Scalp Therapy Shampoo is also used, not only is there a positive effect from the piroctone olamine, but it ensures that the scalp is clear of any material that could interfere with the absorption of Minoxidil or other such treatments.
