Viagra Connect is for men over 18 with erectile dysfunction (ED) and is the first erectile dysfunction medicine to be sold in the UK without a prescription.

The active ingredient in Viagra Connect is  sildenafil and it dilates the blood vessels leading to the penis to enable a firm, long lasting erection for satisfactory sexual intercourse when a man is sexually aroused or stimulated.

It usually takes between 30-60 mins to be effective. It’s best taken on an empty stomach as it increases the rate at which the Viagra Connect is absorbed into the body. If it’s taken after a large meal then it can take longer before it produces the desired effect.

On average, Viagra Connect will last between 4-6 hours. It varies from man to man as it can be affected by a number of things such as age, dosage, diet, alcohol consumption, general health and its interaction with other medication.

It’s best to avoid drinking alcohol when taking Viagra Connect. If you do choose to drink, then you should limit the quantity to one or two units as alcohol can reduce it’s effectiveness . Also, as both alcohol and sildenafil can lower blood pressure you may find that you feel dizzy and ruin your enjoyment of the experience.

We recommend that you let your GP know that you are taking Viagra Connect within 6 months of taking it for the first time.

This is because erectile dysfunction can be due to an underlying health condition such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes. Your GP would then be able to check for any of these conditions.

Also, for your own safety, it’s very important that your GP can consider possible interactions with any new medication he may prescribe and your Viagra Connect.

All medicines have side-effects but not everyone experiences them.

Side-effects that you may experience include the following :-

• Runny or blocked nose

• Dizziness

• Headache

• Facial flushing

• Indigestion

• Blurred vision or sensitivity to light

  Grapefruit juice can interact with your medication and increase your chance of side effects

  It’s a very rare side effect, but if you have a prolonged erection for more than 4 hours then you need to contact your doctor immediately.

  Interactions :-Nitrates interact very adversely with Viagra Connect. They can cause a FATAL lowering of blood pressure and should NEVER be used together.

• Nitrates include medications like GTN spray, isosorbide mononitrate and nicorandil for angina. Also, the recreational drugs called "poppers" should be avoided.
