What is the test?

The Chlamydia test kit for men is a simple urine test. Please read the instructions provided with each test kit before proceeding. You should wash and dry your hands before using the test kit.

The urine test kit contains a urine collection box and a urine sample tube in a protective packing wallet.

It’s best to use urine from the first time you urinate in the morning. If this is not possible then you should not have passed urine for at least an hour before you take your sample. Also, you should use the first part of your urine, as indicated on the instruction leaflet.

Follow the instructions on the leaflet with the test kit. There is a label on the urine specimen bottle in your test kit for your name, date of birth and the date you collected your sample. It is also very important to include your request form with your details as the laboratory will not test your sample without this information.

Put your sample and your request form with your details into the pre-paid envelope and post it to the lab as soon as possible. You don’t need to pay for postage and can put your sample in any post box.

After the lab has received it, your test results will be available in 2-3 days.

How do I get my test results?

As soon as the lab has your Chlamydia test result you will be notified by your chosen method, email or SMS.  There will not be any detail in this message, it will simply ask you to login to your WebMed account; using your secure password. When you have logged in you will find your confidential test result.
The test result will be either positive or negative. If negative, no infection has been detected and no further action is required.

If you test positive then you have Chlamydia. This infection can be easily treated with antibiotics.

We ask that you complete a simple medical questionnaire from which our Doctor can assess for your suitability and, if approved, you can be prescribed oral antibiotics to treat the infection.

How do I treat Chlamydia if my test is positive?

For Chlamydia we offer the same treatment that you would receive from a sexual health clinic or your G.P.

We offer either a single dose of  Azithromycin or a week long course of Doxycycline .

Both treatments may produce side effects, the most common being gastro-intestinal, such as nausea, diarrhoea and stomach ache. You may also get a rash with Doxycycline if you are exposed to too much sunlight.

For Chlamydia you can choose which treatment you would prefer or is more suitable for you, (Azithromycin or Doxycycline) and then complete the appropriate medical questionnaire.

You should not resume sexual activity (including genital, oral or anal sex), until 7 days after you have finished your treatment or received a negative test result. This applies to both the single dose treatment with Azithromycin and the longer course of Doxycycline. Otherwise there is a high risk of re-infecting yourself   or passing on the infection to your partner.

We advise under 25s to re-test for Chlamydia 3 months after treatment due to high rates of re-infection.
