From extensive research, it has shown that if a person is diagnosed with gonorrhoea, there is a high probability that they also have Chlamydia. Therefore we recommend a Dual Test that would identify whether you have either or both conditions and avoid the need to purchase two test kits.
This test kit is similar to the other test kits; it’s a simple urine test for men and a swab test for women.
It will detect whether you have either or both genital Chlamydia or genital gonorrhoea. The test will detect the presence of genital infections only and does not detect them in your throat or anus. If you suspect that you may have a throat or anal infection you should visit your local genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic or GP.
If you have recently had unprotected sex and are worried that you may have Chlamydia or gonorrhoea, you should wait for 14 days after intercourse before taking a test. This is because the infection can take up to two weeks before it can be detected.
This test kit does not detect any other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and therefore if you suspect you might have another STI then you may order our extended STI kit, which tests for seven different infections.
The test kit for women is a swab test. Please read the instructions provided with each test kit before proceeding. You should wash and dry your hands before using the test kit.
The test kit contains a cotton swab in a sealed test tube. Open the tube and place the tip of the swab about 5cm (2 inches) into the vagina. Rotate the swab around the vagina for 10 to 15 seconds before removing it and placing it back in the test tube. Make sure you do not touch the tip of the swab with your hands and do not put it down anywhere before placing it back into the test tube as this may affect your result.
Follow the instructions on the leaflet with the test kit. There is a label on the test tube of your test kit for your name, date of birth and the date you collected your sample. It is also very important to include your request form with your details as the laboratory will not test your sample without this information.
Put your sample and your request form with your details into the pre-paid envelope and post it to the lab as soon as possible. You don’t need to pay for any postage and can put your sample in any post box.
After the lab has received it, your test results will be available in 2-3 days
The test kit for men is just a simple urine test. Please read the instructions provided with each test kit before proceeding. You should wash and dry your hands before using the test kit.
The urine test kit contains a urine collection box and a urine sample tube in a protective packing wallet. It's best to use urine from the first time you urinate in the morning. If this is not possible then you should not have passed urine for at least an hour before you take your sample. Also, you should use the first part of your urine, as indicated on the instruction leaflet.
Follow the instructions on the leaflet with the test kit. There is a label on the urine specimen bottle in your test kit for your name, date of birth and the date you collected your sample. It is also very important to include your request form with your details as the laboratory will not test your sample without this information.
As soon as the lab has your test results you will be notified by your chosen method, email or SMS. There will not be any detail in this message, it will simply ask you to login to your WebMed account; using your secure password. When you have logged in you will find your confidential test result.
If negative, no infection has been detected and no further action is required. If positive, it will state whether you have Chlamydia; gonorrhoea; or both. Both of these infections can be easily treated with antibiotics.
We ask that you complete a simple medical questionnaire from which our Doctor can assess your suitability and, if approved, you can then be prescribed oral antibiotics to treat the infection.
If you test positive for Chlamydia only, you can choose which antibiotic treatment you would prefer or is more suitable for you, (Azithromycin or Doxycycline) then you can complete the appropriate medical questionnaire.
If you test positive for both Chlamydia and gonorrhoea please complete only the gonorrhoea questionnaire as this covers both conditions.
