What is a STI 3 in 1 Test Kit?

It's a simple urine test for men and a swab test for women.

It will detect whether you have genital Chlamydia, genital gonorrhoea or genital Trichomonas vaginalis (TV).

The test will detect the presence of genital infections only and does not detect them in your throat or anus. If you suspect that you may have a throat or anal infection you should visit your local sexual health clinic or GP.

If you have recently had unprotected sex and are worried that you may have Chlamydia, gonorrhoea or TV, you should wait for 14 days after intercourse before taking a test. This is because the infection can take up to two weeks before it can be detected.

How do I take the test for women?

The test kit for women is a swab test. Please read the instructions provided with each test kit before proceeding. You should wash and dry your hands before using it.

The test kit contains a cotton swab in a sealed test tube. Open the test tube and place the tip of the swab about 5cm (2 inches) into the vagina. Rotate the swab around the vagina for 10 to 15 seconds before removing it and placing it back in the test tube. Make sure you do not touch the tip of the swab with your hands and do not put it down anywhere before placing it back into the test tube as this may affect your result.

Follow the instructions on the leaflet with the test kit. There is a label on the test tube for your name, date of birth and the date you collected your sample. It is also very important to include your request form with your details as the laboratory will not test your sample without this information.

Put your sample and your request form into the pre-paid envelope and post it to the lab as soon as possible. You don't need to pay for any postage and can put your sample in any postbox.

Your test results will be available 2-3 days after the lab receives your sample.

How do I take the test for men?

The test kit for men is just a simple urine test. Please read the instructions provided with each test kit before proceeding. You should wash and dry your hands before using the test kit.

The urine test kit contains a urine collection box and a urine sample tube in a protective packing wallet. It's best to use urine from the first time you urinate in the morning. If this is not possible then you should not have passed urine for at least an hour before you take your sample. Also, you should use the first part of your urine, as indicated on the instruction leaflet.

Follow the instructions on the leaflet with the test kit. There is a label on the urine specimen bottle for your name, date of birth and the date you collected your sample. It is also very important to include your request form  as the laboratory will not test your sample without this information.

How do I get my test results?

As soon as the lab has your test results you will be notified by your chosen method, email or SMS. There will not be any detail in this message; it will simply ask you to log into your Webmed account using your secure password. When you have logged in you will find your confidential test result(s).

If negative, no infection has been detected and no further action is required.

If positive, it will state whether you have Chlamydia, gonorrhoea and/or Trichomonas vaginalis (TV).

We can provide treatment for all of these infections.

If you test positive for Chlamydia you can choose between two different treatments, a single dose of Azithromycin or a week long course of Doxycycline.

If you test positive for Chlamydia and gonorrhoea then you only need to complete the gonorrhoea questionnaire as the treatment covers both.

If you test positive for Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) then we can provide antibiotic treatment, Metronidazole, that can be taken in a choice of two different dosages.
